"Action" is a very relative term when applied to slugs.
Tonight, after putting out some fresh bean plant starts, I went out to see how they were doing, with copper barrier tubes & slug traps to help them thru their first night in the wilderness.
Whoa, what a surprise I had. Here was this humongous slug circling
this tender young thing. I'm convinced the copper tube saved the
sprout. This slug was intent, read on.
For whatever reason (I say it was the copper tube), this slug foregoes
the new sprout and heads off in pursuit of other goodies.
Next
in its path, or maybe drawn by its antennae, it finds a beer-based slug
trap.
What fun, look a party, beer provided!
Takes a while for this wary fellow to get comfortable... but
eventually...
He takes the plunge! Yee ha! Never seen it happen for real. Have seen the results.
What do you think? Do beer traps work? Do copper barrier tubes work. Hard to tell about the copper tube, maybe the slug just didn't "sniff upward". But its hard to argue with the beer trap.
If it found the beer trap several inches away, why could it not smell the tender juicy sprout right beside it. Maybe the copper stuff does work. Whatever, I was thrilled to watch a slug succumb to the beer trap if nothing else.
