CARS TRT and Knoxville Rescue Squad personnel start searching a collapsed building for victims during our collapse class in Fall of 1996. As part of the scenario, the instructors placed a rescue dummy in the trunk of a car and then had the car pushed into the center of the building with a bulldozer. They then collapsed the building down on top of the car to mimic a car-into-a-building rescue. Training such as this is invaluable because of its realism and the actual danger involved. The instructors thought it would take the rescue crew all afternoon to locate and rescue the dummy, they were quite surprised when the team did it in a little over 1 hour. (The red columns you see are ART airshores used by the TRT in place of traditional wood bracing because of its strength and speed of use.)
